A Reckoning in Tulsa | Podcast | Overheard at National Geographic ctm magazine

A century ago, Tulsa’s Greenwood neighborhood was a vibrant Black community. One spring night in 1921 changed all that: a white mob rioted, murdering as many as 300 Black residents and destroying their family homes and thriving businesses. Archaeologists are working to uncover one of the worst—and virtually unknown—incidents of racial violence in American history, as efforts to locate the victims’ unmarked graves continue.

This is why censorship is wrong. Democrats haven’t changed in 250 years. Still racists, still lying to hide their sins.

If the government can't even issue reparations to the descendants of slavery after issuing reparations to most of the other minority groups then I seriously wouldn't hold my breath. At the moment all over the country republicans are making it harder for said minority group to vote and are continuing to try and whitewash history by not talking about or teaching about slavery in schools. This history is what historians in Tulsa and other places are trying to investigate and bring into the light as every bit of documentation was destroyed and over the years trying to erase. All this time and it still is happening. 😒

I'd like to hear more on the American Indigenous genocide and maybe a discussion on how those traumatic events effect the lives of many Indigenous American peoples today.

Justice AND forgiveness stand shoulder to shoulder. Justice demands some form of reparations for this awful massacre. Forgiveness is the letting go of persistent ill will with its revenge, retaliation and retribution fantasies. Dr. Robert Enright’s “Forgiveness is a Choice” is the gold standard of evidence-based forgiveness practice.

  • John Stewart on May 21, 2021

Yah, this helps quell the current racial frictions. Sad that Nat Geo strays so far from geography and nice photos. Timing is highly suspect.

  • fasx56 on May 22, 2021

Good example o what hate can do, and mob violence that is carried out with no law enforcement to stop it. We still have demonstrations in this country that are not controlled and violence and property damage is the end result.

I love how events we are supposed to take to heart, details begin with, "well we AREN'T EXACTLY sure what happened but this is what we THINK happened, this is PROBABLY what happened" Are you kidding me?? We are to accept that as facts? That corrupts the details and supposed facts of the whole story.
