All-American Barbecue Sauce – Food Wishes ctm magazine

Buying barbecue sauce at the store is convenient, but making your own classic, Kansas City-style sauce at home is surprisingly fast, and easy. Above and beyond avoiding all kinds of artificial ingredients, you can customize the flavors to your tastes, and in just minutes, produce a sauce just as good, if not better than that stuff from the grocery store.

Bro every time i watch one of your videos, it's like "oh yeah this guy, with the annoying, ridiculously exaggerated tonal inflection in every sentence'. I mean this in the most flattering way possible, that's some branding you got there man, holy shit XD ggwp

  • Amelia Paola Ulloa on December 15, 2020

Where the hell do you get malaise

  • Jessica Azzola on December 21, 2020

I just made this and it’s so easy and absolutely delicious. Thank you Chef John for so many great recipes.

  • gina g on December 26, 2020

Thanks Chef John! I came here the after I made prime rib. Woke up in the morning with no bbq sauce for the left over ribs. Recipe was great!!!!

  • Manas Nandurkar on January 5, 2021

Sir i have a question for you!
How lon g will it last if I keep it in a bottle inside a fridge!?

  • Ewa Plachecka on January 20, 2021

    This sause came out delicious.

  • Debra Hurtado on January 27, 2021

Chef John dumps in the, "… freshly ground black pepper…" and the pepper forms a capital "B" in black & white! No, really, do a replay!! Is that just seasoning… or kismet?? 😏

  • somethingwahlike on February 2, 2021

How long will this keep in the fridge dear Chef John?

  • Company Confidential on February 25, 2021

    This worked!

  • Dave Lawlis on March 14, 2021

This was excellent! I did cut back on the molasses though as I'm not a fan. That's also good point about home made sauces being overspiced. I made a bbq sauce recipe once that had so much ground spice in it that it had a gritty texture to it. I kept simmering and whisking and it just wouldn't all dissolve. yuck!

  • Mj R on March 14, 2021

I would love to try this, but you didn't tell us the quantities of each ingredient.

  • Renata Grisante on April 10, 2021

    Love you for ever, chef.

  • Woggle Pip on May 22, 2021

Once again I am indebted to this man who has explained to me that allspice tastes like all spices.

  • Rick Shaw on May 28, 2021

Why do you talk like that?

  • Harshali Mhapralkar on June 4, 2021

    Simply great 😍😍thx for recipe

  • Carolina Boyd on June 10, 2021

I made this, with fewer spices because I didn’t have everything and my kids said I should never buy bbq sauce.

  • Nicole Myers on June 18, 2021

My mother always added onion, orange juice, soy sauce, and Worcestershire. So good.

  • Tyrone Turner on June 21, 2021

That's fairly close to mine that I make. For chicken or pork I also add pineapple rum and some homemade orange marmalade i learned how to make from one of your other videos. I doesn't overpower the sauce, there's just a hint of something extra.

  • Eddie on July 5, 2021

Would swapping the ketchup out for mustard make a good mustard bbq sauce?

  • Tom D on July 6, 2021

Using Ketchup for any recipe is very weird for any european 😉

  • Unsensible Shoes on July 7, 2021

    I'm surprised there's no garlic.

  • Jimmi B on July 10, 2021

    Ketchup? No thanks!

  • Metoobie on July 20, 2021

Great recipe! I like to add a little bourbon 🙂

  • Diane Greene on July 20, 2021

    Kansas City here I come.

  • Diane Greene on July 20, 2021

What he should have used is a mixing bowl. He must know well what they are yet I've never seen him use one. Maybe we should take up a collectioon.

  • Mark Hamilton on July 22, 2021

Great Sauce BUT either an overnight rest OR a brief simmering on the stove is needed to round out and meld the flavors. Better than anything store bought.

  • Jasmine Cotto on July 25, 2021

You lost me after the first two ingredients.

  • Dawit Muluye on August 6, 2021

  • xxxxmimi on August 19, 2021

short material list..?…. im not going to buy all these condiments to put in, just go buy a bottle of BBQ sauce.

  • Estuche de Peluche on September 2, 2021

I make mine just like this, except I use cooked tomatoes instead of ketchup and I cult the sugar by half, oh, and I also add rendered onions and put it all in the blender. All the rest is the same.

  • James Crider on September 15, 2021

“And then we have Allspices, which taste like ALL SPICES “😂😂😂😂😂

  • peter on September 20, 2021

Bowl used could have been bigger 🙂 Simmering this and then cooling would be better I think. Will have to try it.

  • Next Level Recording on October 5, 2021

Not sure why people like this. This bbq sauce is terrible. I followed to a T and tried manipulating it a bit after and it's just sooooo ketchup flavor hevy. Not well balanced at all. If anything, I would start with 1 cup of ketchup and not 2 cups

  • Tianna Yvonne on October 29, 2021

Thank you! Wanted to make meatloaf tonight but have no sauce…I have the ingredients you used to make my own though…excluding the molasses…just plain syrup…I'm still going to try it though 🙂

  • Jerry Burger on October 31, 2021

It tastes ok but still has a ketchup taste

  • L Sabetian on November 3, 2021

And as always enjoy…yum yum yum. Merci merci merci
