I made these twice and they were great! Second batch I used Chinese 5 spice instead of the regular spices, and they were SO GOOD.

5:50 real americans dont use pans like this, you use a Colt 45 to shoot the holes in your donuts, preferably by chucking it in the air and whipping out a revolver and blasting the holes out mid air.

Hey guys, I live in Romania and I’m not sure if I will be able to find apple cider~ can I use apple juice as a replacement?

  • Existenceisillusion on December 5, 2020

Where others might see a problem, I see an opportunity. Overfilling, leading to the holes closing, means they are more like a cup. A cup to be filled with all kinds of delicious goodness. :d

Damn. When the holes baked over and you said you had tricks, I thought "If he puts some kind of apple-cinnamon frosting in the middle of those, that would be TOO BADASS"….and then you didn't do it 😂 I'm still gonna try and make em

If you want to be really careful to not burn the cider, try boiling it by lowering the pressure instead of raising the temperature, lol

  • dunastrig on October 4, 2021

I'm going to make these without removing the excess in the center, put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle and then drizzle extra apple cider reduction over the top.

  • krummb on October 20, 2021

    Lol, love the dry humor

  • Patressa Kearns on November 17, 2021

Hip, hip, hooray for this recipe! I have made these twice now, and they've been a huge hit both times! I added a big pinch of kosher salt and two big pinches (about 1/4 tsp.?) of ground cardamom to the cinnamon sugar mixture they're rolled in and I think that adds a nice bit of intrigue. These are on my permanent recipe rotation now. Thank you, Chef John! You are awesome. P.S. – Hi to Michelle.
