  • Leanna Splinter on October 22, 2020

If you substitute the pork with fish, bread with a corn or flour tortilla and get rid of the pate you will have an amazing fish taco.

  • CaptBackwards on October 22, 2020

    Ingredients for one Bánh Mì:
    1 crusty French sandwich roll
3 tablespoons secret sauce (mayo, seasoned to taste with hoisin sauce, and sriracha)
    4 ounces roasted pork
    2 ounces smooth pate
1/2 cup *pickled daikon and carrot
    1/4 cup cilantro leaves
    6-7 jalapeno slices
    6 thin spears English cucumber

    * To make the pickled daikon and carrot, use equal parts and toss in enough seasoned rice vinegar to coat well. Let sit for 15-20 minutes, or until the veggies get slightly limp. Drain and use, or refrigerate. If using regular vinegar, add a pinch of salt and sugar.

  • coachJ39 on October 27, 2020

forgot the maggi as well as sugar for the pickles

Hey Chef John & community. I once followed a recipe for the pickled
carrots and daikon that had me set them in some concoction for at least
24 hours. Recipe said if it smells funky, you're doing it right. Well,
they smelled, and tasted, quite funky. I followed similiar directions to this recipe and
the results were GREAT! The question: Can I make these veggies ahead of
time or is too much time the enemy? How much time might too much time
    be? Thanks!!

  • Shemai Hettinger on December 18, 2020

I watched through your video just to have a good laugh..also love your recipes!

  • shikha b on January 12, 2021

    Lol!! "Low carb" sandwich 😛

  • Mr X on February 6, 2021

The first time I ever had these. The shop selling them had a queue of about 30 people. It moved fast 6 people making them and they made the bread rolls fresh in the bakery. It is the best Bahn-mi ever.

  • Lynette Dundon on February 8, 2021

    Looks good without pate.

  • mrcloz on February 10, 2021

Oh, that sing song voice just drives me nuts. I finally end up muting the sound . . . .

  • Kimbap Tempura on March 11, 2021

Banh Mi Oven in San Jose has some of the best damn Banh Mi, their baguettes have this super delicious garlic flavor….mmmm.

  • Kimbap Tempura on March 11, 2021

If you are at a Banh Mi place, and never had one, DO NOT GET THE COMBINATION! Get BBQ Pork, or chicken, or 1 single meat that looks familiar. The combo typically comes with more off the beaten path ingredients like Head Cheese, and if you don't know what it is, or don't like it, then you're getting the wrong impression of Banh Mi. I use to work in Little Saigon in San Jose and there were like 7-8 Banh Mi shops within walking distance all with slightly different variations. Don't let it fool you, there are many types of this amazing sandwich!

  • James Bateman on March 16, 2021

    No Maggi seasoning. Lol ok.

  • Brianna on March 27, 2021

I adore you & your content! I’ll be following your recipe for the bread rolls & this sandwich tonight for my Vietnamese family 😍😊

  • Bob Hartman on March 30, 2021

When I was in S.Vietnam during the war there, we would clean the internal french bread crumbs to make a pocket because when the bread was made little insects would get rolled up in to the bread dough before baking. They have a lot of insects in Vietnam, it happens! In the USA we have better control of food, so the idea still stuck, clean the center bread crumbs out, but we call it, to make more room for the ingredients.

  • Massive Troll on April 5, 2021

not bad for a white boi

  • Ivy Chang on April 26, 2021

You don’t have the beef liver paste, it’s the brown paste.

  • Malinee Saechee on May 1, 2021

    Low carb sandwich 😂😂😂

  • J CS on May 3, 2021

I made this today using the sandwich roll and pan roasted pork recipes and it turned out great. Hubby ate two in one sitting. Will most likely make this again!

  • Metoobie on June 30, 2021

HAHAHAHA "fight for your right to paté"… best pun ever!!

  • Hotmanpop on July 31, 2021

looks good, but where's the MAGGI sauce?!?!

  • T Lev on August 2, 2021

He is missing 2 ingredients, first is the pate which I considered fundamental to the banh mi. Second would be Maggie soy sauce which can be altered and I would highly recommend pickled your radish and carrot instead

  • Tonxnot 1 on August 7, 2021

    Needs maggi sauce

  • Irma on August 17, 2021

Since i cant buy a piece of daikon, only a whole one, i use all carrot. Works great

  • Tim on September 7, 2021

Haha – "Fight for your right … to Pate".

  • A M on September 25, 2021

  • 1ejwsr1 on November 4, 2021

king of the bun, king of the pun!

  • Thu Michaela Frank on November 6, 2021

instead of your secret sauce, which I will try on my own banh mi, you should try soften butter and soy sauce. It's the Vietnamese secret sauce.

  • Josh Layton on November 16, 2021

I usually love your recipes, but sorry this is a travesty to the Banh Mi
