This actually sounds really good, but I think that every time someone tries to make a comparison to meat it makes it sound less appealing. I'm a meat eater who enjoys a well cooked vegetarian meal, but the constant need to be "meat adjacent" is actually a massive turn off. Let the dish stand on it's own, being what it is, instead of constantly trying to pretend it's something it isn't.

i have been making and eating a mushroom and lentil based meat alternative for quite a while. usually we add some walnuts in there too. most often we use it to make lasagna or burritos

Kudos to Chef John for the shout-out to the late, great Meat Loaf! (Rest in Peace) "Two outta three ain't bad……"

may i suggest adding some chestnut puree and a 1/2 cup of cooked, leftover risotto. its flavour and a binder all in one!

  • Nvortex on January 28, 2022

I don't care because I eat anything but you should have specified that this isn't a vegan recipe at the beginning for the people that will expect something like that from the title

  • ULTRAZILLA! on January 28, 2022

Interesting recipe. Odd to see a meatless meatloaf with elements of meat, but I'm into it, lol.

Hehe… I'm in the kitchen watching this. Hubs and boys are standing behind me, shaking their heads and saying, "DON'T even think about it, Mom!". LOL! Nice try, Chef. Gold star to you for really trying to sell it, but I'd get run out of Dodge… I think having to drown the thing in gravy – twice – was a dead giveaway. 🙂

My daughter is vegetarian. I don't think there would be a major flavor difference if I used BTB Roasted Garlic base. Gonna try it!

  • leon14344 on January 28, 2022

It is absolutely 100% not better for the environment. It's actually significantly worse.

    That said, looks good.

  • Go Away on January 28, 2022

Looks interestingly tasty. Unfortunately it'd never get finished in my kitchen as I'd never be able to resist to temptation to drop a steak or pork chop in with the browned mushrooms and have it that way.

  • darkgrape on January 28, 2022

"Better for you" ummm, the more processed a food the worse it is for you! Better "environmentally" LOL This is highly processed food created and manufactured in a factory. What a joke, stick to the kitchen "Chef"

  • Henry Chinaski on January 28, 2022

shame on you for promoting this garbage.

  • Henry Chinaski on January 28, 2022

its not better for the environment and you know it.

  • Lighten Up on January 28, 2022

Love this, as a vegetarian, I only need to modify few ingredients!

  • Kevin Smretschnig on January 28, 2022

I love your channel, I lover your recipes
But putting in that beef bouillon was absolutely unnecessary and I don't have the slightest clue why anyone would do that if you get the same result in the taste as a whole with some good veggie stock

  • andyct1982 on January 28, 2022

It was vegan, until you added the eggs, worcestershire sauce and cheese.

  • Kevin Deckard on January 28, 2022

This looks bad in the making, iffy in the pics, and okay just before plating. I don't think I'd make this one, but I would probably try this if someone else made it. Just not a huge mushroom fan. 🙁

  • Giovanni Zenato on January 28, 2022

I love that you used the beef base here. I feel omnivores can miss out on a lot of great ingredients and dishes because they get pigeonholed into the vegetarian category. But they can still be good ingredients in dishes with meat, just look at mapo tofu.

And if you are a vegetarian you can easily swap the beef base for a vegetarian option.

  • bubandlisa on January 28, 2022

Gotta pass on this 1 as mushrooms make me 🤮 same for chickpeas 🤮
    But ❤ your channel

  • Billy H. on January 28, 2022

They remind you every 15 minutes.

  • Last of the Tribe on January 28, 2022

"Better for you nutritionally" — what plant food is more nutritious than beef/meat, weight for weight?
