Made it! It was delicious. Served it as a side dish along with biscuits and bacon wrapped green beans to accompany grill-fried chicken.

    Epic meal!

It was kinda-sorta like red beans and rice and serving it as a side dish for friend chicken is, for lack of a better analogy, kinda like serving red beans and rice as a side for fried chicken (think Popeye’s Fried Chicken restaurant).

The way to make farofa abroad is to go to an shop specialised in African or Indian food and ask for 'gari flour' it is exactly the same as what Brazilians call 'farinha de mandioca'. The literal translation to 'cassava flour' make it impossible to find because such a thing doesn't exist. But if you look for 'gari flour' you won't be disappointed. It is exactly the same stuff.

The way to thicken the feijoada is to add a couple of cups of the cooked beans and juices to the onions and garlic frying pan, saute them a bit then mash well and put it all back into the big pot.
Another trick is to add a peeled orange into the bean&meat pot. The pith will absorb a bit of the fat from the meat and as it also contains pectin will help with the thickening. But don't let the orange open.

I noticed a lot of similarities between this and Cajun red beans and rice. Guess they both come from poor people trying to stretch a meal of beans and rice. Would you pair this with some of those Brazilian cheese rolls?
