Could This Section Of The Constitution Keep Trump From A 2024 Bid? | The Mehdi Hasan Show ctm magazine

Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution disqualifies Americans from holding public office at any level if they’ve engaged in any effort to overthrow the U.S. government. That section was enforced just last week, removing a now-former New Mexico county commissioner, Cuoy Griffin, who participated in the insurrection. Could it also keep Donald Trump from a 2024 reelection bid? MSNBC columnists Dean Obeidallah and Charlie Sykes join Mehdi to discuss.

You know and I know that this is only wishful thinking. Nothing is gonna happen. History has shown nothing will happen because there are people above the law.

If he's convicted of violating the ESPIONAGE Act, wouldn't that be intrinsic proof of betrayal of the country and Constitution, and, therefore, automatic proof of violation of Section 3?

  • yarnpower on September 20, 2022

It is silly to say that the Republicans will use the rule against Dems in the future. If anyone, Dem or Republican, participates in an insurrection and is charged and convicted, they deserve to be barred from office.

  • Gabriel R.D. on September 20, 2022

The only thing that should keep trump out of office is a jail cell.

His lowlife criminal status should disqualify him from running ,the only running he should be doing is running from all the people who hates him and wants him dead.

  • ghost9199 on September 20, 2022

It's time to stop giving excuses to those who support Trump. They're TRAITORS outright!
You vote for Trump you're a traitor!

  • ghost9199 on September 20, 2022

Donald Trump is a traitor AND a terrorist!
They should be treated as such.

  • mike b on September 20, 2022

I love how the guys like Trump were saying Obama wasn't born in the United States. They don't say too much about Ted Cruz not being born in the states. He was born in Calgary and he had Canadian citizenship for a long time.

  • Time is now Booth on September 20, 2022

If he’s not punished he or someone else will do it again. That’s the bottom line

  • mike b on September 20, 2022

When most people read this they do not read all of it. The last line is very important.
    Section 3.
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

We The People have learned our lessons since 2020 and do not support the Big Lie. We will not support churches who promote the former Presidents falsehood. The churches must provide family support services for Christians who promote non violence, breaking all ties with election deniers.
