‘Fight’ Looks At How Gen Z Channels Their Fear And Passion

  • Thomas De Quincey on January 18, 2022

No. The most influential drivers of Gen Z values is their parents. Secondly, it is their own needs. Thiirdly, is their family's needs. Only when these bixes are ticked will the stuff put up on screen matter. Lastly, 'Gen Z' does not describe character or personality. Like 'Baby Boomer' it means nothing more than a period of time.

  • George Prosser on January 18, 2022

    You Go Generation Z !

  • TC Sam on January 18, 2022

I cam of age when the Cold War ended, the USSR broke up and there was a general sense of optimism. It's heartbreaking to have watched that optimism turn to fear and suspicion.

  • Kathy Jones on January 18, 2022

Stupidity when you read someone wants to split the states up and start moving people out of red states so they can not be part of the United States. What kind of crazy 🤪 😳 😜 is that.

  • Rocky Mountain on January 18, 2022

I'll take this over WW2 or Korea.

There has always been fear of the environment (acid rain, pollution) and global threats ( anyone remember the cold war?). AIDS? Civil rights riots, open misogyny and homoohobia……
    Fear is not new.
Gen Z feels they the only one to know uncertainties and worry.

We need everyone to turn out. The GOP is now a Nazi party looking to rig elections and lie to retain power. The old GOP is dead. The new GOP is comprised of the cheap anti-democratic trash that were once called Dixiecrats. Racists, and Fascists to the bone.

  • Canadian Sociologist on January 18, 2022

"The adults let them down." That's putting it politely.

  • A M on January 18, 2022

Dead wrong. Fear does not unite us. Just look at trump's platform. Fear is what divides us. Fear is dividing this country. What unites us is compassion and love…..

  • Thats not funny on January 18, 2022

    Pay attention.

  • Jon-Erik Hegstad on January 18, 2022

I watched the second plane hit the tower live on television. The difference between generations is more than the acts of terror they witnessed first hand but rather the potential for terror our leaders have allowed their generations to endure by constant inaction. Older generations were trained the "correct" way to be was silent in the face of adversary. Trained to be neutral as if that was the best way to be. The younger generations understand the only justified intolerance is that of the intolerant. For if we allow intolerance to persist, we have become the intolerant.
Also, our school systems have failed us and only with the advances of technology can students learn on their own time how truly terrribly we've treated the planet, other people based on skin color and our own people in the name of outrageous profit for the few.

  • wily wascal on January 18, 2022

Have been strongly encouraging and working to get young people to vote for years, informing them on the issues and the vital importance of voting. While there are some who are cynical and apathetic, there are more that are receptive. I've found it helps to frame it as being their future at stake, with very high stakes, and they have the ability to shape that future in ways that benefit them instead of hurt them. I also tell them that by not voting they are letting other people make important decisions for them that they often may not like, that they are ceding control over their well-being and future to others.

  • Ann sans E on January 18, 2022

i'm elderly, and quite frankly if the repubs take back congress i don't think i want to hang around.

if you're trying to get gen z to read this book it will need to be in 10s clips on tiktok read to a trending dance

  • Peter Bardy on January 18, 2022

Within a couple of years (maybe sooner), those who aggressively pushed for lockdowns, mask mandates & other brutal restrictions with no regard for the devastating short or long term impact will be looked back on in the same bracket as those who pushed for the invasion of Iraq.

  • Richard McCoy on January 18, 2022

I am a member of Gen Z and this whole segment is very white centric. Gen Z is the most diverse generation but this segment would have you believe we all live in the east coast and go to NYU

  • Ferdry Nuñez on January 18, 2022

The Republican party leadership has set out to make President Biden's presidency a failed one where ever they can; they are using the rich, big business to go up on prices, SCOTUS to rule against the majority of our nation on whatever issues it can & they're even using 2 Democratic Congress members (undercover Republican moles) against President Biden, Vice President Harris & the will of the MAJORITY of WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES.

The Republican party has been a corrupt, money & power hungry, elitist, racist, misogynistic, lying, deceptive, down & dirty party and the Democratic party continue to come to the fight with careful words & they are being destroyed by the Republican Mafia; the Democrats need to put on their big people drawers & fight fire with fire. They should never put their members out because of silly missteps & shouldn't even discipline them, even modestly, in the open ever again, at least, not until the Republicans clean their membership of the corrupt despicables in their party.
The Republican party makes me physically ill almost everytime I hear what they are saying & doing; I pray for man's & GOD'S justice to expose & punish each and everyone one of the criminals & those who are complicit in their silence.

  • Ferdry Nuñez on January 18, 2022

If the Democratic leadership can't find away to stop the craziness happening in Congress, if they can't find away to stop the Trump train, if they can't make away for our government to act on the will of the MAJORITY, we have the wrong people working for us & they need to be flushed just like crap (the criminal Republicans).
Republicans have been cheating the system, and Democrats have been scared to call it out and we better know, the Republican criminal cheaters are pulling out all the tricks possible to win the elections that are coming within the next 4 yrs and the Democrats will still be too scared to call them out because Democrats have said how safe our elections are; we better know, they are looking to find every way they can to cheat & they'll be waiting for a Democrat to say the Republicans cheated so they can say the Democrats are mad because they lost, our elections are safe.

  • Ferdry Nuñez on January 18, 2022

Republican leaders are making Democratic leaders look like lost, confused, helpless kids that can't save themselves from the monster under their bed; it's sad watching, it even hurts to my core, seeing our DEMOCRACY taken over by so much darkness & it seems the LIGHT is in the back pockets of Democratic leadership, not being used.

  • Ferdry Nuñez on January 18, 2022

Trump is one the biggest criminals of our time & though he's not in office anymore, his criminal cult continues to work on his behave & many of them are still in office.
"No one is above the law", please, no one should ever repeat that again because we know better & we see people avoiding the law all the time; just look at the criminals in Congress, the twice impeached, defeated, criminal former president & his criminal cronies HE pardoned & so many other who are rich, famous & every kind of powerful people. Republican leaders Basque in their Criminal doings, they're smooth operators at it and are most often successful in their many corruptions & criminal undertakings. Indeed there are quit a few who are above the law & they have NO SHAME for it.

  • Ferdry Nuñez on January 18, 2022

What are the Democratics doing to stop the Republican party from killing DEMOCRACY and what can they do because they obviously are tremendously outmaneuvering the Democratic leadership.
It's heartbreaking to see what's happening here in the United States (Divided States) of America.

  • Ferdry Nuñez on January 18, 2022

These Republicans leaders aren't finished, they're doing & planning more in hopes of gaining more money & more power and that's all that matters to them and somehow it doesn't hurt them.

  • Ferdry Nuñez on January 18, 2022

Democracy looks like it's in the past & it's unfortunate, it looks like the majority of our country is being ignored & Democratic leaders don't have away to protect us from deplorable leaders.
    This is SICK!!!

  • Ferdry Nuñez on January 18, 2022

People, please remember, Trump made it REALLY GOOD for the RICH & POWERFUL & BIG BUSINESS, so why would they act on behave of the average citizen of this country now, because if they did that would make it look like Biden is succeeding in his presidency. The RICH & POWERFUL & BIG BUSINESS want Trump back in office so things can get even better for them again at the expense of the poor & middle class. The RICH & POWERFUL & BIG BUSINESS are causing many of the problems now to help Republicans because they know the Republican party leaders will poop all over people to keep & get MORE MONEY & MORE POWER.

  • Ferdry Nuñez on January 18, 2022

Democratic leaders throughout the our country need to create & activate security measures to protect our elections like never before & they have to put forth THE BEST POSSIBLE candidates for elections & do the research & homework on these candidates so there won't be anymore Republican moles in the Democratic party. And, the Democratic party IN CONGRESS should be setting the stage to make Manchin & Sinema of no consequence to the DEMOCRATIC AGENDA & as soon as possible, get them OUT OF CONGRESS & KEEP THEM OUT BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY because of the hindrance they've been to THE DEMOCRATIC AGENDA & THE PROTECTION OF VOTING RIGHTS.

  • Ferdry Nuñez on January 18, 2022

Normal, reasonable, people with a good conscience should be ashamed that we have such self-willed, unethical, immoral, deplorable people representing our country in any way. The Republican party leadership is filled with people who deserve NO RESPECT OR HONOR, they are DESPICABLE CRIMINALS & all they want is money & power by any means. And if you can't tell by now, kyrsten Sinema and Joe manchin, won't try to help accomplish President Biden's (FOR THE AVERAGE PEOPLE) agenda because they are Republican moles & they fooled the Democrats to become members of the Democratic party to work against them FROM THE INSIDE and as you see, their tactic worked, the majority of Americans screwed again by the criminal Republican Party while the Democratic leadership looks impotent as they grapple with trying to figure out how to stop them from bringing us into an authoritarian chaos lead by crazy bigots.Normal, reasonable, people with a good conscience should be ashamed that we have such self-willed, unethical, immoral, deplorable people representing our country in any way. • Ferdry Nuñez on January 18, 2022

Democratic leadership better get off the pot & flush the criminal Republicans down the drain; if they don't find away to drain our DEMOCRACY of these criminals, we'll have no credibility on the world stage anymore & our country will become the land of rich & powerful masters against everyone else, that's exactly what MAGA means to the leadership of the Republican party.
Democrats need to unite & carry a big stick and not be afraid to use it to bring these Republican criminals down.

If Republicans win anymore battles against our DEMOCRACY; we should hold them & the Democrats responsible, time out for acting like Mr & Ms Nice Politician, it's time to pull out all the political big guns & deal harshly with those who are doing a good job of wrecking our DEMOCRACY for their need for more money & more power. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, PEOPLE AGAINST CORRUPT POLITICS ACTIVATE!!!

  • James L on January 18, 2022

Right on. So much of Americans culture revolves around fear. It’s why so many Americans have guns. And Republicans play on it for political purposes from George W to Twump and the others

  • James L on January 18, 2022

I hope the young people vote for hope. Vote for progressives and for a better life

  • Pj Bell on January 18, 2022

They also see a POLITICAL nightmare of our LEADER'S having easy solutions but refusing to implement them because of who is paying their Coiffeurs.
The amount of corruption and nothing getting done and when you VOTE for something only to have political parties do what they want instead of what the people voted for …
    It depression at it's core.
Throw in a pay check that gives nothing to you to survive on so why bother!

  • Troll Bait on January 18, 2022

I keep hoping to see this kind of passion kindle in my own generation but it feels like the 90s ripped it right out of most of us. I do my best at least, even if it leads me to feeling like a social pariah for wanting a better future for my little sister and nephews.

  • Bowser Lamont on January 18, 2022

Gen z need a smart phone to do almost anything, they are useless without the internet. It tells them what to do, think and feel. If the internet went down for a week they would turn into puddles on the ground.

  • lindsay jennifer on January 18, 2022

    I adore this!
    thank you, John

  • jacques roy on January 18, 2022

how about dealing with the following NA ,Europe have population of 6% and owns ,controls 66% of the world economy

  • Robert Beck on January 18, 2022

Gen X the last great gen . All down hill from there pretty sad . Big deal school shootings we were going to be nuked everyday for yrs. Get over yourselves

  • David Davidson on January 18, 2022

    Gen z fails at life

  • scrubjay93 on January 18, 2022

The truth of our current reality and politics is right there for them to see on the internet, unlike when I grew up. They can watch progressive news on YouTube and learn the ugly truth of our system of legalized bribery in campaign finance laws. They learn to follow the money and have to discover the insane power of the 1% that makes a future seem hopeless. And college being a road to bankruptcy instead of a door to open the world of opportunities. The USA sucks.

  • Rhetoric on January 19, 2022

Pull the plug on these freaks!

  • Richard Cogbill on January 19, 2022

I'm a boomer and the zoomers I know see living outside of the U.S. as an option. Canada, Australia, the U.K. even Chile has been mentioned because it has elected a young, progressive, president who cares about climate change, income inequality and sustainability.
These zoomers tell me they and many of their friends have had enough of what they have experienced so far in America and are seeking a life elsewhere in the world. They don't have faith in this democracy with its unfair electoral college, partisan Gerry meandering, stacked supreme court, Citizens United, weak protection of voting rights and big corporate and dark money funding it all. And what zoomer gets excited about a Congress and Senate in their 70s ?
Nope, I think this guy is just being hopeful about the future. Generation Z cannot give us something we cannot give them.

    I LOVE GenZ <3

Americans love guns, their leaders are funded (trump family) by the gun lobby .Kids die Trumps eat well…. repeat

  • Ethereal Rainbow Canvas on January 19, 2022

I was born in the mid 80s in a multinational environment & I grew up an idealist. As a precocious child, I watched the world change starting at the end of the 80s. The USSR lost it's iron grip then fell, exiled people were finally able to see their families, so many countries switched to democracy, technology was changing, allowing us to communicate with the world, & a more open way of life was spreading even in more traditional, repressive places of the world… Life was far from perfect, terrible things still happened, but there was so much hope for the new millennium!
Then 2001 happened & a bewildering tragedy became the rod of hatred & massive surveillance to hit the world with. So many people became "the others", the monster to be feared. Exclusion will always build radicalism! All the progress made in the 90s was gone, erased behind defensive fear, resentment & injustice…
I became an adult in a world of fear, suspicion & so much anger… So many dashed hopes & ideals about a new, better world…
Then the financial crisis came & crushed any hope my generation had of getting to the workforce of getting any stability in our personal lives at least.
Smartphones, social media, all this technology came at the right moment for a distraction from grim prospects & realities. My generation chose easy, more reachable things like a fancy drink or food to pin their hopes & happiness on because it was attainable, the only bit of illusion left…
In the last few years, the world has also discovered the monsters hidden behind technology & social media… What else is left?
Millennials should be called the generation of good intentions & crushed hopes.
But the truth is, I actually feel sorry for those born with the millennium, the gen Z. At least we had some hope before the crash & burn, they haven't known anything else… No wonder they desperately want to save the world. It's on fire…

  • Russell Barndt on January 19, 2022

It brings me to tears that I never had to go school and have to accept that this could be that day, that that my niece gets shot and her friends murdered at school of all places, shame on my generation, breaks my heart. Not once did I go to school and fear death

  • Russell Barndt on January 19, 2022

They will remove the second amendment since it has been misinterpreted for political gain, to raise money for political power. It only needs to be applied as written and no one needs military assault weapons if no one else does. It is pure madness

  • Russell Barndt on January 19, 2022

Wow what he said at 9 minutes and 9 seconds, 70%, let's do this

  • Space Rock on January 19, 2022

Me to Zoomers: You have a whole lifetime of mistakes to make before judging or dispensing advice.

I just have issues with elevating the status of youths to that savior level. I saw somebody mention Vietnam and the 60s. I understand that view. But then, for all that love and peace, how were the drafted and non-drafted soldiers treated by these same ppl? I see this same apathy phenomenon happening among zoomers and Afghanistan. My opinion and view of course. “Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.” Nothing changes.

  • I. Dash on January 19, 2022

    Gen Z rocks!

  • Cleo Creech on January 19, 2022

Even as a Boomer, I am soooo ready for our current in power generation to step aside and quit hanging on and looking backward, its time for a new generation to step forward with new values and ideas.

  • Jogo Element on January 19, 2022

I'm happy to have been born in 1988 ❤ I got to live without internet and all this crazy technology long enough to appreciate the simpler times. I'm also thankful that I'm young enough to look forward to whatever the future holds with all the wild technologies sure to come ❤

That's IF we don't destroy ourselves and planet…..

  • Ver Chavez on January 19, 2022

Maybe you’re this country’s only hope at such precipice. America’s state of affairs look very dire.
