    Book of Amos 8: 4-7.
Hear this, you who oppress the poor and leave the landless without work,
who say: "When will the new moon be past that we may sell the grain, and when is it the Sabbath, that we may open the store? And we will reduce the ephah, increase the shekel, and trick the scales.
We will buy the poor for silver, and we will sell the poor for a few sandals and wheat chaff. "
The Lord swore by the pride of Jacob: "I will never forget all their deeds."
    Psalms 113 (112), 1-2.4-6.7-8.
    Praise, servants of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord.
May the name of the Lord be blessed
    now and forever.

The Lord is high above all peoples,
above the heavens is his glory.
Who is like our Lord God,
    who lives above
and looks down to heaven and earth?

Raises a pauper from the dust
and lifts up the poor out of the dunghill.
to make him sit among princes,
among the princes of his people.
    First Timothy 2: 1-8.
First of all, I recommend that petitions, prayers, common prayers and thanksgiving be made for all people:
for kings and for all those in authority, that we may live a quiet and peaceful life with all godliness and dignity.
For it is good and pleasing in the eyes of our Savior, God,
who wants all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man, Christ Jesus
who gave himself a ransom for all, as a testimony at the appointed time.
For them, I was made a preacher and an apostle – I am telling the truth, I am not lying – a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
So I want men to pray everywhere, raising their hands clean, without anger or strife.
Gospel according to St. Luke 16: 1-13.
Jesus said to his disciples: “A rich man had a steward who was accused before him of squandering his fortune.
So he called him over and said to him, “What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you will not be able to manage anymore. "
The steward replied to himself, "What shall I do when my master takes away my administration? I cannot dig, I am ashamed to beg.
I already know what I will do to get people to their homes when I am removed from management. "
So he summoned each of his master's debtors and asked the first, "How much do you owe my master?"
He replied, "One hundred barrels of oil." He said to him, "Take your pledge, sit down quickly and write fifty."
Then he asked the other, "How much do you owe?" The man said, "A hundred bushels of wheat." She tells him, "Take your pledge and write eighty."
The Lord praised the dishonest steward for acting wisely. For the sons of this world are wiser in their relations with men like themselves than the sons of light. "
I also say to you: "Make friends for yourselves with wicked mammon, so that when all is finished, you will be admitted to the eternal places.
Whoever is faithful in a very small matter will also be faithful in much; and whoever is dishonest in very little matters will be dishonest in much.
So if you have not proved faithful in managing wicked mammon, who will trust you with the true good?
If you have not been faithful in managing other people's goods, who will give you yours?
No servant can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to that, and despise it. You cannot serve God and Mammon! »

    St. Gregory of Nazianzus (330 – 390)
bishop and doctor of the Church

Homily 14, on the love of the poor, § 23-25; PG 35,887
"Whoever is faithful in very little will be faithful also in much"
See where your existence, breath, intelligence and what is most precious, the knowledge of God come from; where does the hope for the Kingdom of Heaven and seeing the glory, which we now see vaguely, as if in a mirror, but which we will see in purity and clarity (1 Corinthians 13:12). Why are we children of God, heirs of Christ (Rom 8: 16-17) and – I dare even say – we are gods? Where did it come from and by whom?

Or, looking at the less important things, those visible to us – who gave us the gift of the beauty of the sky, the daily path of the sun, the cycles of the moon, countless stars, and in all this, great harmony and order that govern them? Who gave us rain, agriculture, food, arts, laws, cities, civilizations, family ties?

Is it not from the One who, in return for these gifts, expects us to love our neighbors? So, will we deny our brothers that our God and Lord should be ashamed of being our Father? My brothers and friends, let us not be evil stewards of the goods entrusted to us.
