How Advertisers Joined The Fight Against Germs | Nat Geo Explores ctm magazine

Starting in the 19th century, shopping helped save lives. Advertisers at the time sold countless home and personal hygiene products by zeroing in on the public’s newfound enemy: germs. But by making money off of this fear of germs, advertisers inadvertently made the public healthier, made cities more sanitary, and created cultural shifts in personal hygiene that we still see today.

Ooooo. As a public health professional. This was cool. As I was not born in the mid to late 19th century it is cool to see how our species used different tactics to manipulate and educate people on an IMPORTANT issue which was people's ignorance to microbial colonies that can infect and kill other organisms (like our species). Fascinating. Will be interesting to see after the revelation of the famous coronavirus that causes the infectious state, COVID-19, SARS-COV II, will be nice to see people understand why it is IMPORTANT to vaccinate yourself, your offspring(s), and to cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze AND.. my personal favourite, HANDWASHING.

Now, ignorance and stupidity exists within our species..yes.. we are all aware of this social disease.. YET, if someone who refuses to vaccinate, cover their mouth when they sneeze/cough or refuses to practice impeccable hygiene by washing their hands, especially when in public.. and that person gets infected.. all we can do is treat that person to the best of our medical ability. If the person survives.. GREAT… if the person does not survive… well shrugs we tried.

And let all things be done in cleanliness before me.  Thou shalt not be idle; for he that is idle shall not eat the bread nor wear the garments of the laborer.  And whosoever among you are sick, and have not faith to be healed, but believe, shall be nourished with all tenderness, with herbs and mild food, and that not by the hand of an enemy.
