Republicans do not want free speech they want the power to say whatever they want and claim it is fact no matter how it hurts the American people such as telling people to inject bleach to cure COVID. I have had to accept people like The Proud Boys and Neo Nazis have the right to go out in public and preach hate and violence in the name of free speech and now they want to take away our right to demand some form of the truth from our leaders and from broadcasters calling themselves legitimate news agencies?

Exactly, government has power to regulate "time, place and manner" of free speech (which it used against Occupy demonstrators), but regulating point of view (short of inciting violence) is not allowed. More on the thuggish angle, Disney suspended its political contributions (to both Democrats and Republicans) and Ron Desantis campaign had in the past received $50K from Disney. It appeared that Ron Desantis was litterally shaking down Disney for his campaign's $50K.
