Start by installing and activating the better WordPress reCAPTCHA plugin.

To Configure to the bwp recapt section.

You will need to supply a public and private API key to use Google’s reCAPTCHA API from the reCAPTCHA website.

Now you would want to go back to your site and fill in the keys in the settings page and enable it for registration.

    Works just like she says. Open WordPress, Add Plugins, Search for Better WordPress ReCAPTCHA, install, go to Google's recaptcha tool to get the two keys you need, setup in the module, and version 2.0.3 of this plugin worked great in WP 4.9.1 for me.
