Summary of this Tutorial:

Start by installing and activating the Custom Post Type UI plugin.

The plugin will add a new menu item to your admin area called “CPT UI”.

To create a new post type go under CPTUI, Add New which will also allow you to create a custom taxonomy.

The column on the left is for your post type and on the right is for your taxonomy if you need one.

You will need to provide a post type shorter than 20 characters, a plural label to show on your admin bar and a singular label for interface purposes.

And lastly add a description to describe what it does.

You can now click “Create Custom Post Type” to add your new post type.

If you want to eidt the label options click on the Advanced Label Options and Advanced Options links to customize more options for your post type.

The title is supposed to say "How to use a wordpress plugin" Not "How to Create Custom Post Types in WordPress"

  • humeyUK on March 11, 2015

How do we do this without using a plugin? For those that would like to learn something rather than the usual 'find a plugin' method. This video is titled wrong, and should be called 'How to use a plugin to create custom post types'.

I'm using CPT:UI and Advanced custom fields for wordpress. They do apparently work together, but is there any reason why I run my custom post types under archives, I Can see all of them, but when clicking on an individual post I only see the title and nothing else( Not a single advanced field that I assigned to it is visible.)

  • Thaynner Bastos on October 15, 2015

Hm, let me ask you something…. Since you set archive as true i'll be able to create a template that gonna list all my movies using archive-movie.php right? Ok, but how can i create a template for show the individual information about the movie?

It's so refreshing to see a WP how-to video that actually has someone narrating; rather than 10 minutes of barely-visible mouse-clicks & check-boxes, with who-knows-what kind of music. Nicely done!
