Hands-on experiences with exotic animals are thriving, boosted by social media. But behind the scenes, animals involved in tourism often lead miserable lives. In this short documentary, National Geographic writer Natasha Daly investigates wildlife tourism in Thailand, where many visitors seek interactions with elephants.

In many cases, captive experiences with exotic animals rely on abusive training or treatment. To learn more, you can read on here: https://on.natgeo.com/2Q3vhBT
if u just go to those places and taking some pictures and upload it to ur facebook, etc. pls stop, u just flexing without knowing those animals need to have rest.
I Pray god may a Supreme create be born and give all the hook treatment that these poor wild animals suffer ….I pray karama eats away happiness and health of the people who support this kind of tourism!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭I really feel that pain…
Thank you. I knew this happened but thought it was been stopped and was only still happening in zoos and circus
I have to wonder, can these animals be bought?
This video just shows the extent of human perversion. When will we understand that animals don't need this? When will we let animals JUST BE animals? It's gonna be a long hard road to their freedom. May we not give up. We're all they've got….
So distracting and sorrowful.
Save wildlife, save the world.
Human is most cruel animal on earth
Jay Meher Baba
It gets so common when everytime NatGeo, Peta, etc targets and yes targets the Asian countries and selectively ignores the large sealife aquariums and zoo in the developed countries and Gulf nations where there are numerous cases of animal abuse. Big cats treated as pets, Orcas named as Killer Wales and confined to small water tanks, dolphins feed and electrocuted to perform stunts!
Everything humans do takes the lives of animals, or takes away their freedom and dignity! Humanity has no shame, -zero dignity.
Shame on all of you. Such creepers human.
As long as this virus name human remains… This animal cruelty will never end. It's sad truth.
I hope we humans disapear from the Planet in a near time bevor its to late for the Real life 's of the Planet
What a nice place I'll think will go to visit thailand
In India we take care of our animals like family members
We people are very much selfish, for our enjoyment we visit there as a tourist. Stop visiting then automatically this kind of torture will end! We the people responsible for this torturing act, not the torturer! Main guilty is tourist! Traveling should be like that tour of helping animals! Not by caging innocent animals!
You have done a divine task of showing this dark side of an apparently good and entertaining reality. Please post it in as many social media accounts as possible so that people understand the cruelty behind this. Please. Let this be replaced by more humane forms. We should not enjoy our vacation at the cost of innocent animals
Kerala elephant says hi..
How selfish they r, if they are earning from it they should take proper care of that animals.
Hard to thing it may happen every day to people. Captivity no!
It's good to expose these ongoings in other parts of the world, but I can't help but wonder if zoos in the US or other western countries are any different. Maybe they used the same abuse tactics, but just cover it up better than these places?
Thank god covid hit, this quarantine will definitely shift it
I hate seaworlds and circuses and zoos 💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩
Nope, I would never support any of them places. Not even 95 percent of zoo's would I support. You never know what really goes on behind the scenes.
That is just my thoughts. Many may not agree but I'm not here to debate my opinion with any one. This is so 😔
Tourists should not visit Thailand… (copied)
I think you should make part 2 of this topic in Indonesia zoo (the treatment for animal in it indonesia zoos) and also Indonesia forest (the life of wild animal, how media potray them as intruders who ruin garden of villagers or as terrors for people)
Buddhists need to step up and take a stand against this. Buddhism is very imortant to Thailand. But money talks. Tourists visit there expecting a peaceful country in harmony with nature.
The question is what can we do, we can't do anything?
А туристы упиваются мучениями слоников бедных .
Institutions like these hiding behind the facade of a 'zoo' to make them seem more humane make me so sad because it makes people associate animal abuse with 'zoos' rather than ACTUAL registered and humane zoos and aquariums under the Zoo and Aquarium Association contributing to a lot of the positive international conservation efforts as well as international breeding programs to combat what these institutions are doing.
When there are not enough tourists then the animals will suffer more due to budget cuts. You need a strategy to prevent them from suffering more, especially if it does happen. Maybe form a foundation and collect some philanthropists to fund a a rescue and rehab center where they can get love, medical attention, proper food and shelter.
It is very depressing to see these benevolent , kind animals being shown extreme cruelty for the selfish purpose of amusement and shock value. How can mahouts who spends all his life lack compassion with his animals? He should learn to train them fairly with humane intelligence, love and compassion. It is a shame.
0:40 aww did you cry for the poor elephant?? Its OK I cried too, couldn't help it I was just laughing so hard the tears just came. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
5:44 and we're just supposed to take your word for it?? The video clearly doesn't have the proper lighting to back up your claims (very convenient) so absent any video evidence, we are expected take the word of someone who clearly has their own agenda! And you have the audacity to call someone else a liar!!
We sacrifice the animal's respect and dignity by neglecting its health, mental state and physical state FOR entertainment and business.
We need to abolish private owning of elephants and other wild animals.
So sad you consider your elephant like a God but you don't treat them w respect
We have to sign petition
The humans who are paying for this. The totally ignorant ones who care more about their social media image, than the blatant suffering of innocents in front of them, staggers me.
Shame on YOU.
Shame on you for being so blind that you can stand there and watch a beautiful creature be tortured so you can try to impress other humans who don't care about you anyway.
If they did, you wouldn't feel the need to gain their praise.
Humans are so crucial for using animal to earn some money but they forgot how they are brutuly destroye animal natural hababitas and they are playing with animals life 🥺🥺🥺
