Great stuff, as usual. Is it just me, or is this dish Screaming to be made 50/50 Lamb and Beef with Feta?

EDIT: eeeeeeeewwwwwww. Just because you see a recipe that looks interesting doesn't mean it tastes good. I made this for breakie this morning, it turned-out perfectly but everyone said the same thing. It's not 'good' and in the garbage it went. Ground beef and spinach with eggs is all kinds of flavorless stomach-fill. The only way to make it tasty was with way too much salt. Blech.

That looks different…. think I'll give it a go as a change for breakie. FINALLY!!!!! I've always wondered why I see no one else doing the tilted pan / paper towel thing. Everyone who sees me do it says "that's a good idea" so why have I not seen anyone else do this, even on online cooking videos?

EDIT: oh and for what it's worth (I'm an amateur but a process engineer by trade so every technique, I like to mess with), in so many recipes that call for cooking ground anything in with the rest, I don't, as I theorize that the fat in all such recipes absorbs X% of all the seasonings and flavors from, in this case, the seasoned onions & mushrooms. So I just use a separate pan to brown-up the meat, drain well, pre-season and toss in with the other stuff at the right moment. It's an extra pan but I feel it's worth an extra dish to wash and you can do both at the same time. Just my two bits.

    And as always….. 😛

Yum! Got to try this. You guys in the US definitely know how to make a great breakfast!

It's supposed to have a little nutmeg. I've eaten at Original Joe's in San Jose for more than fifty years.

In SF in the 1930’s, Joe’s Special was 35 cents. No mushrooms.

Cholesterol, cholesterol and sodium for breakfast! Humanity would be in a much better place if someone had thought of this in ancient Greece and carried it down through the ages.

No mushroom hood save a Buck

Just made this to kick off my whole30 (no bread/ tomatoes/parmesan). Really great idea. I added some minced garlic and for some reason I felt the urge to use the merchant blender on the mix before adding the eggs… 🤔

Looks awful! The meat part is awful!

  • Hester Green on June 30, 2021

    This looks like straight-up, vomit.

  • Dennis Harvey on July 13, 2021

Excellent, I cooked this recipe today for the second time. The only extra I add is tabasco sauce on my plate.

Would you know if this was served at the former Cal-Neva Lodge on the north shore of Lake Tahoe back in the early 80’s?
They had something very similar on the menu called San Francisco Joe
    It was excellent
    Thanks

I'll be honest, it does not look very appetizing but I bet it tastes good.

I drove a yellow cab for 20 years in SF and finished off my shift with a Joe's special at midnight. Dave was my waiter at the counter by the front window. Fond memories of 144 Taylor !!!

Made it – loved it – but not breakfast – just so wrong.
Really enjoy your recipes and presentation style

My daddy makes Joe's special at least once a week

  • MeSummika on October 25, 2021

Awesome been making that for years just because I figured that would be a good flavor together. Never knew there was a place saying it was invented there. MMMMMM

  • HotCrazyCatLady Me on October 28, 2021

Joe probably stands for "Joe blow" which is just a way of saying an average guy.

  • robanchio on November 30, 2021

    Gross

  • Lawrence Taylor on December 14, 2021

With or without the bread, you cook like that and you'll be my Pal-ee-oo.

  • Daniel Geci on January 20, 2022

Personally I like making ground beef with spinach and goat cheese. To me the goat cheese funk makes the ground beef taste like lamb. I'll season it however I feel often with middle eastern or Indian style spices and I even use this mix to stuff acorn and butternut squash rubbed with honey and cinnamon
