If they don't like it (congressman and ladies) Don't become Congress people. It's that simple!!!!

  • Denise Palmer on January 20, 2022

    Remember Martha Stewart????

  • The problem is that if you are rich you are held to a higher standard when it comes to the law. But if you are middle to lower class you will be jailed immediately with no questions ask. It's always been that way, especially if you are in the government. If this was not true Hillary Clinton would be in jail along with a ton of other politicians. Especially the ones that visited Epstein Island.

I agree law makers shouldn't trade Individual stocks… however, they should have access to index, ETFs, and mutual funds.

  • CANTWEALL GETALONG on January 20, 2022

But, this will interfere with a gravy train of corruption, how could a democrat sponsor this? Oh, blind trust, "I promise".
How will Fauci and Collins clean up on the pandemic industry?

  • Bob Rowan on January 20, 2022

It is small wonder that the public has lost all trust and confidence in institutions and people of authority. Not all "public servants" are thieves, cheats and frauds, but enough of them (such as Nancy Pelosi) are that one must assume that each one is. Eventually, with no such trust or confidence, society suffers disorder, disunity and collapse. We are watching it in slow motion now with little to nothing being done about it.

  • Ex Visu on January 20, 2022

The funny thing about thing about this, is that if this legislation passed, all these politicians would suddenly be a lot poorer, which would implicate all the politicians of insider trading prior to the legislation. Lol

I disagree with stock ownership while serving in congress. Anyone can own stock. I agree with a complete freeze in trading. Have stocks? Okay, if you get into office, all stock trading frozen. You cannot discuss stocks. As for family cannot trade? Bit complicating. Say if I ran for office and somehow managed to win a race for congress. I have family who really do not talk to me- we aren't exactly on speaking terms. This proposal would damage them further if they trade in stock. Why should I be holding office and in turn further damage family just because they trade in stock?

A more complex but precision bill would be necessary in order to prevent legalized insider trading by members of congress or any government contract. Complete trade freeze of that member. Required to abstain from any congressional decision that could effect the futures of their own stock holdings frozen while in office in order to prevent voting to benefit their future funds. As for how to prevent from benefiting or damaging family, that is a tough one. Just holding office for one person, cannot encroach on some one else's rights (however you look at it), just because a family member they may not even speak to, holds a position in office.

Pelosi when questioned about it, " its a free market place". Pelosi, crook, criminal, thief, liar, con, back room deals. Boot her out now!!!

  • matt newrocki on January 20, 2022

Ithink they are going about it wrong. See the congressman work for us 24 7 they are compensated for their time. So any money they make during the hours that we are paying them for belongs to us! Class action against them i say!

  • Derek Williams on January 20, 2022

Just prevent the gooberment from making economic policy.

  • Lloyd Moore on January 20, 2022

Excellent idea! Take away *ANY monetary incentive*. Then the only reason people would run for office is to serve the public good!

  • Dan on January 20, 2022

Yeah Robby's out to lunch on this one. I think it's a totally fair comparison to compare facebook and amazon with the tobacco companies. Obviously its not exactly the same, but I totally agree with the Senate candidate.

  • Christina Burcell on January 20, 2022

    Agreed 👍 100%

  • Tina S on January 20, 2022

Where's your state and federal tax money u owe? It's in a Blind Trust 🚔

  • Carchorodon Lock on January 20, 2022

All they've been threatening with is the nuclear warhead. Federally it's an aggravated misdemeanor, mentioning nuking in the state house is not a joke. It's an indictable criminal act.

  • The Juice on January 20, 2022

I like this guy. We need people like this replace corrupt old politicians like Nancy Pelosi.

  • Danny Windham on January 20, 2022

I could appreciate what Jon ossoff is trying to do but the truth is he's just another dime-a-dozen neoliberal corporate Democrat. No member of Congress should be allowed to own individual stocks managed mutual funds or index funds nothing. These people are paid very well $175,000 a year for what is essentially a part-time job. If these people wish to trade stocks then resign become a day trader. Good riddance to you all of you

  • Jason Whittle on January 20, 2022

A blind trust that can only be invested in a Total US stock index fund (like VTSAX) is a solution. They have skin in the game for the state of the US economy but can't benefit more than the average person.

  • Ali Thomas on January 20, 2022

As an NC conservative Burr should be in prison.
