reading a lot of comments suggest a lot of democrats are so condesending "country people are simple have no great life experiences" we have to explain things to them simply. The democrats are a party of elitists. Even the poor fools that don't live in LA, NY,Chicago can see that. I've been telling Democrats this for a long time. They have turned their party into a party almost exclusively indebted to and therefore interested in the urban, black vote. In the near future white suburbs and rural areas will be voting 95% Republican because of it. The black block will be overpowered by the white block. Hispanics will be mostly in the middle. So Democrats are doomed to be ruled mostly by Republicans on the national level, and increasingly on the state level. This is terrible news for our country. It will allow insanity on the Republican side to go unchecked. But Democrats refuse to understand basic political realities. They are dazzled by ideology. They are going even more insane than Republicans. Wise up, Democrats. Stop pandering so much. Stop 'cancelling' those who refuse to conform. Learn that 'diversity' is not only skin deep. That's superficial. True diversity is based on ability and ideas.
PUBLIC AIRWAVES
before 1981, when Reagan took office, laws existed requiring local ownership (non-corporate). the rule of 7 was the colloquial expression. the reason for this was to give the local community owners (THE PEOPLE OWN PUBLIC AIRWAVES) control over their broadcast stations (they are leased, not owned by the proprietors).
the fear was that corporate owners (again, leases) would subvert the mission of the public airwaves for purely financial reasons. added to this 'rule' was the Fairness Doctrine, which stated that these stations broadcast local/regional news and whenever requested, allow all sides of any controversial issue to be aired (to inhibit any attempt to propagandize).
REAGAN changed it all. he allowed for corporate ownership (leases) and in multiple locations. local ownership was no longer encouraged. the rule of 7, which limited the number of stations one entity could control was 'deregulated'. media conglomeration began. then, REAGAN abolished the Fairness Doctrine requirements. this allowed media moguls to broadcast select and often controversial messages to be aired without response from opponents (i.e. propaganda)
the first radio stations to be bought out were in impoverished rural communities, since they were the most financially distressed. in came the moguls armed with hours upon hours of nationalized partisan talk shows. rural radio (and later TV) became an outlet of conservative talk ONLY! no response to those partisan talking points was required. so, all that was broadcast in these areas was one-sided, think tank created, hyper-partisan programming. and that paradigm still exists today, and is supplemented by cable propagandists (Fox and others).
INDOCTRINATION is what it essential is. rural communities don't get opposing views, as PUBLIC AIRWAVES were expected and designed to bring them. these were purely political moves promoted under the false guise of 'free speech', saying not allowing corporate run stations was an attack on corporate freedom. again, these are public airwaves – not private. the notion that controlling corporate propaganda was an offense to free speech is preposterous. corporations were free to approach local management and ask for airtime, just like anyone else. but corporations didn't want 'a slot' of time, they wanted it all, which is not conducive to free speech at all. it limits opposing views. it was a known false claim.
SO…here we are, over 30 years later and we wonder why rural communities are so overwhelmingly conservative.
it's because that's all they are exposed to in their communities, right-wing talk. books have been written exposing this atrocity, but changes have not been made to return control of local content to local communities (the true owners of local public airwaves) – it is 100% corporate messaging.
HATE RADIO IS WHY RURAL AMERICA VOTES CONSERVATIVE.
AND IT'S DESTROYING AMERICA
So STOP listening to Michael Steels who say " remain a (R), things will change with your vote!" It's time to knee cap the GOP and bail from this party. The party that would not allow Obama to seat a Justice, the party that acquitted Trump TWICE, the party that disavows the Jan 6 Committee, the party that parrots putin. And Steel says to keep allowing this party to have you counted on the side of treason. Steel is just a stealth Mitch McConnell

End the Electoral College. Let every vote count. If Democrats make ending the Electoral College their #1 voting rights priority, all of discussion of problems and potential illegal maneuvering to steal elections, becomes a moot point. It would also make any Republican candidates: Have an Agenda – which they won't right now as their main goal is to covertly undo all of the progress Democrats make in making things more orderly and better for the everyday person.
