Hi Chef John! I love your fun cooking videos and recipes. Do you have a suggestion for what can be substituted for the sausage? Would ground beef/turkey work?

  • Polly on May 2, 2020

I love your recipes but what’s going on with your voice in this episode ?🤪 still Love the recipes though

  • Jharieltravel on May 14, 2020

Would love to try this for dinner tonight! 😋

Looks delicious. I normally keep great Chorizo for Cajun dishes but this sounds like a great change. Perhaps some Andouille for those who like their Italian more arrabbiata.

  • Darlene Campbell on June 3, 2020

Can I use ketchup instead of tomato sauce?

  • justalurkr on June 11, 2020

Thumbs up for the first pun of the year

How much orzo? How much of the broth?

  • Francisco Milos on August 5, 2020

    No veggies?

  • Scott Rousseau on August 19, 2020

Ok. This is ridiculously delicious. A permanent standard along with American Goulash in my house. Mmmm.

Our weekly dinner plan now features Sunday night as "Chef John Night" – we pick a recipe out of your video selection for Sunday night's dinner. Tonight we will be executing Chef John's "one-pot chicken & sausage orzo". Your recipes do not disappoint.

I just made this for probably the hundredth time. I think it’s safe to say that this is solidly in my regular rotation.

Great recipe 👌 😋 after frying the hot italian sausage i took it out and fried the chicken breast in the sausage oil for some colour then combined the two as you did .. and i added pinch of cayenne to the mix .. 😆

This is similar to a Greek recipe which has a real name, but we just call Greek Pasta Dish. It's made with lamb. We usually use the leftovers from a roast leg.

  • Lawrence Taylor on September 24, 2020

I have to mention that you should pay attention to your audio quality. Your wife's drum lesson was heard again on the video just after you had done a joke. You might try to coordinate so that rim shots don't get recorded.

We call this type of pasta Kritharaki in Greece and if you want it to be extra special don't just toss it in raw like that. Fry it in olive oil or in this case this nice flavorful oil till some of the pieces are browned, then add your liquid!

I am going to make this one pot comfort dish. Can you offer more recipes with orzo?

I love this technique! I typically use fresh chorizo sausage meat, skip the chicken, add mushrooms, diced onion, chopped walnuts and spinach, and stir in an egg for extra creaminess at the end, and dang, it's one of the fastest meals I've ever made. Pure weeknight comfort food that happens to be a bit more nutritionally balanced. It reminds me of risotto but with 1/4 the stirring, which is a WIN in my book.

  • Margaret Menzer on December 3, 2020

    No liquid or orzo measurements

  • jack dorsey on December 28, 2020

Looks great. Is Greek make something g similar two ways. One is gouvetsi in the oven and the other is manestra. It’s delicious. Made some the other day and even ate the burn bits at the bottom because I forgot to stir 😂 oops.

  • Deborah Luciano on January 23, 2021

Great recipe and I agree on the ricotta cheese

  • KEVIN KNOX on February 18, 2021

Thanks for this recipe and I browned the chicken separate, added at the end.

  • Add E on March 1, 2021

GF pasta does not hold up to dishes like this. Use rice.
If you have problems with it sticking, also use rice.

  • X3RUBIM on March 2, 2021

Could someone provide me with a name of this "Italian sausage" and/or maybe possible alternatives?

  • Clyde Blair on March 4, 2021

Some more broth and you've got paprikash.
