Salisbury Steak – TV Dinner Style – Food Wishes ctm magazine

Back when I was a kid, and our parents didn’t have time to make a meal, we’d get to enjoy something called a TV dinner. They weren’t that good, but we didn’t care, since we got to set up our specially designed trays, and eat in front of the screen. One of the most popular TV dinner entrees of that era was the Salisbury steak, and this is my not-too-modern take on that classic dish. Enjoy!

Egg and breadcrumb are NOT needed! The egg adds gobs of cholesterol. A classic Salisbury has minced onions in it. I have been a Pro Chef 54 years.

    I really needed the recap

  • Fall Front 21 on October 31, 2021

I made this and quickly found out that the recipe calls for a full cup more of broth than is needed. Do not use seasoned bread crumbs and the amount of crumbs you use will leave you with a mealy meat mess if you are not paying attention to recipe portion vs reality. Adjust your crumbs! Also, if this does not rest ,at least overnight, you will taste every independent flavor in the meat. Forget using a fork, this has to be mixed very very well and the crumbs have to be spot on. The wet hands is also not needed, it's a bit ridiculous really. This is the type of recipe that can very, very easily leave you with a mess In your kitchen, crushed anticipation and a broken feeling of utter disappointment. I suggest you don't waste your time. Fyi, the website is riddled with pop up ads galore, and even pulls you out of the recipe page in the middle of following it. Final note: go light on the worsestershire, like half– it overpowers in the meat.

Yeah, Swanson's Salisbury Steak was high on my list, but I liked meatloaf for the brownie included, then the Mexican Hungry-Man, then the Salisbury Steak.

Today I finally made this recipe and it was amazing. I served it with mashed potatoes and stewed pears, which I thought were a beautiful sweet and fresh contrast to the richness of the mash and the gravy.

i wish you would actually measure the ingredients and we can adjust from there. I have to guess on how much is my pinch compared to yours, is a pinch more or less than a 1/4 tsp? Measure, Measure, Measure, then adjust to taste from there, right?
