Religion has always been a power tool used to control people, every where. People are tossing away those vestiges of control and domination, and seeing the world as it truly is. Without the torture aspect of religion, it is becoming less and less useful to unify or dominate people. Abortion is a side effect of dominance, for the many conflicts experienced especially in advanced nations. Killing or destroying life seems far fetched until it is associated with a helpless creation that can not speak for or defend the right to life. People are sick. The World is sick and getting sicker. Either way it goes, it will not be pretty and no one will win in the end.
Voters in 2020 Presidential Election by Ethnicity:
• White = Trump 57%: Biden 42%.
• Black = Trump 12%: Biden 87%.
• Latino = Trump 32%: Biden 66%.
• Asian = Trump 31%: Biden 63%.
• Other = Trump 40%: Biden 58%.
White Americans are the only group were the Majority vote Republican and who wanted Trump as president (small p).
All other ethnic groups voted solidly Democrat.
It is the majority of white Republicans s who claim the 2020 US Presidential Election was fraudulent and who waged the insurrection.
The threats to America’s democracy is coming from those white Republicans.
This needs to be acknowledge in segments like this one if this clear and present danger to US democracy is to be tackled properly.

Can the left and right co-exist? Not as long as people at both ends of the spectrum are gullible enough to believe the rampant lies pushed by anyone and everyone on the internet.
There was always a degree of slant to "news" as it's been presented to people. However, when the only new outlets that were reaching large numbers of people were journalists, the news had to be concerned about consequences if they pushed news that was not verifiable. Now, anyone who wants to can post, stream or whatever anything they want to say and they're not going to get sued. You even have a large agency getting away with blatant lies by claiming the program they were aired on was "entertainment,. not news."
The way to combat this trend would be for the people the lies are aimed at to practice critical thinking. However, as was pointed out by George Tomson, below, American schools are not teaching that skill for the most part. To make matters worse, politicians are enacting laws to prevent certain things from being taught, likely because the ideology they represent is concerned that a populace which can critically think is less likely to swallow their party line.
Although this United States Supreme Court judge is now deceased, words from her book live on.

When comparing the level of polarization between the US and European countries, I’m incredibly surprised that Fareed did not think to compare political systems. In the US, there is a two party system, and those parties depend on their ability to polarize their voter bases. How many of those European countries are limited to two parties? Ignoring the obvious – that it’s America’s political parties that drive polarization – is poor research, and poor journalism.
It’s because the churches teach hate, intolerance & molest little children.
Sweden does have diversity BUT they don’t tell you about the foreign men following them home & scaring them on the streets & in their own neighborhoods.

The divide in America is provoked by Liberals who scream follow the science, but then they turn around and say men can get pregnant and fetuses have have no rights. Liberals only follow science when it fits their cause. Moreover, they demand that America disarm as millions of criminals are released from prison.
I am also a conservative because I do not believe the government should be able to take my earnings and give it to some schmuck who crossed the border illegally with his or her 14 brats who will not learn English nor respect American law.
Finally, Liberals have caused this divide because Americans saw how uber-liberal teachers were teaching the kids during the Stalinist-like Covid lockdowns. The teacher unions let slip for all the world to see that they believe that parents have no right to opine in the education of their children. Americans also saw on a daily basis that there was one set of rules for the well connected and another for the rest of the nation: Pelosi demanding entry into a closed beauty salon or Newsom dining en masse with his pals and family while other Americans stayed home.
Religion and government don't mix.
First, with the Pew charts, Zakaria doesn't point out that America's left % is to the right of the other countries'' left %s, and America's right % is WAY to the right of the other countries' right %s. In other words, based on these charts, our spread (or polarization) is greater because the right in America is so far to the right. I'd like to see the same Pew charts from 20-30-40 years ago — has the spread changed much? Is the U.S. left % now closer to other countries' left %s, with the right static, or just what? Second, as to our "rapid secularization," I trust Inglehart's scholarship, but I'd like to see the charts, please, Fareed. ** Data aside, I agree with Zakaria's ultimate question. As a nation, we seem very stuck in a very bad, dysfunctional place. (And according to Tim Alberta's recent reporting, Evangelical Christians think the "left" wishes something or other (bad) upon them, when I suspect that few on the left wish them anything other than happiness in their own beliefs and wish they would not impose them on anyone else.
