Whoa… something apparently happened between the gingersnap video, where you advocate for oiling your knife, and this video, where you let out a bottled-up hatred of knife-oiling food bloggers and warn of impending doom-by-oily-knife. For the record, I oiled my knife to cut up the candied ginger for your gingersnaps and it barely did a thing to keep the ginger from sticking past the first cut, so I gave it up!
This is a weird recipe… never would think to add those ingredients together. I wanna taste it, but not make it exactly…

We have apple sauce made with tart cooking apples, sugar and cloves, to go with roast pork. I’m from the U.K. will give this a go, looks interesting 👍😊

I love you Chef John, but this has to be the least appealing recipe I've seen of yours. Now i must say that I never had chutney before so… May be excellent. But doesn't look it.
I was searching for a good chutney recipe and hoped I could find an easy to follow video, and of course I found that Chef John made one, reliable as always!
I like the food but his voice makes me crazy.
I made pear chutney, and used crystallized ginger instead of fresh. I canned it. It pared up nicely with the venison roast my father did when he got a deer that year during hunting season.

Hello sir, i took your idea made it into relish for hot dogs. So i only cut the apple's differently for my use. Great recipe idea to create various uses towards food.

You know I would subscribe, but I just can't get past how you have to "sing" all of your voice takeovers with a distinctive high and low pitch. Why can't you just talk normal man? I maybe the only one, but I just tend to find it so irritatingly annoying unfortunately.

This is going to stink up your house and burn your nose, throat, and eyes while you’re over it when it’s cooking… but my god is it delicious!
I couldn’t find star anise in my area and the people I cook for don’t really like licorice type flavors so I substituted with cinnamon and clove.

I made it. Way too sweet. I'd cut back on the sugar by 33-50% and the white vinegar as well.
Cheers chef, 2 jars made. I doubt they will last long enough to cool down.
I love apple chutney so I made this – i cut the vinegar by 30% and it is still really too vinegary. I 'm not in love with this recipe.

i did this 2x with the second batch using 1/2 c ac vinegar, 1c w vinegar 1 1/4 c sugar and a tad more pepper flake – fabulous – i feel like a chutney pro – thanks cj
