omg I just made this, and it was super spicy! I love it but some of my family really had to drown it in sour cream

Still waiting for John to come out with merch. I'll definitely buy a "give it the ol' tappa tappa" shirt

  • shabnam jawahar on November 25, 2018

Can I do this with leftover rotisserie chicken?

  • Bobbi Leach on November 25, 2018

We made this with leftover Peruvian turkey (another of your amazing recipes) and it was PHENOMENAL!! Will definitely be making it again.

  • Cindy Gibbs on November 25, 2018

I'm going to use meat portion of the recipe to make actually tamales.

  • Alicia Nyblade on November 26, 2018

I made this for dinner tonight using the last of our leftover Thanksgiving turkey. Here's how mine turned out: https://www.instagram.com/p/BqoTau8H0PI/
It was absolutely delicious! Flavorful and spicy, really put a warm feeling in my belly. Thanks, Chef John!

Damn my picky taste buds for not liking onions and peppers.

  • Claudia S on November 26, 2018

I made this on Saturday and it was delicious. Thank you Chef John.

  • Ken Graves on November 26, 2018

Made this tonight. Definitely see why Captain Cayenne omitted said spice from this one. Definitely needed no further spice boost than it has as is. Hey John. I gently spread out the topping like you did, but most of mine sunk down and cooked inside the pan, rather than on top. Still kicked butt, and the flavoring was most excellent. Was my base too liquidy upon assembly? Honestly, it looked just like yours at every step, but the "tamale" just sank down in during the cooking.

Made this tonight, and it was FABULOUS! It's getting to the point where all I have to say is, 'It's a Chef John recipe.' and the fam is more than down. I did add a can of drained black beans because I was a bit light on the turkey, and some sliced olives because I cannot leave anything well enough alone. I think it's a condition….

Oh, and I also found that there was no need for chicken stock if you just use a bigger can of enchilada sauce. =3

I just need to know what magical cornbread batter floats on the top of this soup.

  • Cruz Razo on November 28, 2018

Wouldn’t Mexican Masa work as well over the corn bread?

  • Michael Katt on November 28, 2018

Not bad but I think that you would have a much better flavor profile if you made your sauce from hydrated guajillo chiles, onions and garlic

  • Ruth Salinas on November 29, 2018

What would be a good side dish for this turkey tamale pie? Anyone???

  • deny r on November 30, 2018

So… no honey roasted turkey video huh 🙂

  • Janice Martin on November 30, 2018

Dear Chef John, 👍 this is excellent. Please add to Thanksgiving leftovers playlist so it’s easy to find again! Thanks😀👏👏👏

Who are you and what have you done with Chef John?

  • Jaimee Dowsett on December 4, 2018

Chef John, can semolina be used instead of corn meal? In Aus cornmeal and semolina are kinda the same thing? But semolina definitely doesn't dissolve into a batter without cooking it.

  • r0kus on December 5, 2018

So … cheese makes a no butter batter better?

  • floww88 on December 6, 2018

Gordon Ramsay matty Matheson chef Jon the three best forget the rest:)

Great dish, had to use chicken, TG turkey was devoured by my 20-year-old grandkids and their friends. Had a roasted chicken left over, worked well. BUT peppers suggested were way too hot for my wife, so I had to find some sweeter pepper to use but still worked out great.

  • Kimberly Guimond on December 9, 2018

Yes please…do a video on enchilada sauce. The canned taste like metal.

  • Adrion Dunham on December 10, 2018

I appreciate the rhyme he did, but it wasn't the "you are, after all, the"… I'm scared.

  • Al Martin on December 14, 2018

Your northern friends in Canada cannot get Enchilada sauce in any regular grocery store…in fact, I have never seen it north of the 49th parallel (biggest part of our border) So please do a recipie 🙂

This channel is pure unadulterated food porn. I love it. I binge watch.

  • Neuro on December 16, 2018

I wonder if raw turkey would cook enough in this. Should I pan fry the turkey first?

  • Betsy Harris on December 19, 2018

    Tired this. Interesting approach!
Results: once was enough. We took the rare step of throwing away uneaten leftovers, maybe because ours was just ordinary. It's not that it was bad, but it was not delicious. I followed the recipe pretty much exactly as presented.

I made this the other day with canned chicken that I have a surplus of – well I keep a bunch on had for emergencies so need to rotate the stuff out after a year. Anyway I pureed the chipotles in adobe sauce and only used 1 poblano pepper and it was too spicy for everyone in my family except me so next time I will tone it down I was surprised at how much corn bread there was in the mix and next time I will actually make more of the meat filling to get a better ratio of bread to seasoned meat. Thanks for the recipe!

  • Spaceform on January 26, 2019

One tamal, two tamales. Tamale is not a word

  • Gabriel Carvalho on March 20, 2019

Pork would be very good, too. Pork and corn are very good together.

That dish is going to be on fire with a whole can of chipotle peppers. Bring it on!

  • MrLibertyHugger on December 29, 2019

Great recipe. Everyone loved it. Especially with the sour cream and cilantro and lime or course.

  • William Fickas on April 16, 2020

Trying this with leftover Easter turkey 🐣. Will see if I’ve made one substitution too many. I thought I had many more of the ingredients than I did, but in reality had similar things like green enchilada sauce, rather than red, etc. I hope it’s good because now rather than a medium mound of turkey, I am going to have a big mound of some kind of pie 🥧 🌶 🦃

  • John Sullivan on May 23, 2020

When I made it, it turned out tasting like cornbread on top of Chili, is that what it's supposed to taste like? If so, there's easier ways

  • Free 100 on June 4, 2020

the colours on that were just fantastic. your channel is what is getting me through lockdown

Just got up from the dinner table. Turkey Tamale Pie was a great hit. Thanks for a great idea. Still have enough turkey for another sandwich (extra mayo)
