Volvo XC40 Recharge has a true one pedal drive mode and the C40 is both longer and taller so it's not "smaller". Basically the same car in a coupé version.

  • Marko T on June 21, 2022

C40 and XC40 are the same size vehicles. Same platform, same drive units and size. The WLTP range for XC40 is not 540 km, but 420km.

  • Salvador Barreiros on June 21, 2022

You should shock Sandy and tell him it’s a converted ICE vehicle 😂

  • airheart1 on June 21, 2022

This Volvo seems like horseshit. Way to much.. like an ICE car.. if you’re too stupid to learn all the benefits of being in an EV.. and you need to be babied into it.. my god.. you need some help. These legacy auto guys treating people like morons who can’t figure out something new.. are just shooting themselves in the foot. And their engineers obviously don’t understand the necessity of aero efficiency in an EV. Dumb dumb dumb. That range of the the Volvo is WLTP.. so subtract 20% right off the top because WLTP is more horseshit.. then subtract another 15% because hardly anyone even gets the EPA rated ranges in real world average driving. Giving you about a 215 mile range in the real world for most drivers. Not horrible for the price. But not something that interests me one bit

  • Martin Lund on June 21, 2022

If Volvo changes the things Sandy does not like then they have a winner!!

  • carholic1336 on June 21, 2022

1:57 sandy I don’t really see too many buttons inside that cars! It’s just a few ones for basic controls lol 😂 😂

  • GoodGuyLuka on June 21, 2022

I cut wires on comax machine for this car in factory where I work. 😅 for cable harness. We assemble cable harness here in Serbia.

  • jim anderson on June 21, 2022

Really really good! That's high approval from Sandy , then the low price,, . Will be nice to see ice skeptics convert to cars like this.

  • no112358 on June 21, 2022

NOPE I want switches and knobs for stuff. This "all screen" push is annoying.

  • carholic1336 on June 21, 2022

Sandy the car runs on Google automotive OS

  • Rani G on June 21, 2022

The XC40 is a nice car but it has pathetic 223 mile EPA range. It might be enough for daily commute but very limited for road trips. The limited 150kw max charge speed doesn’t help either. What’s most disappointing is that they get only 223 mile with a 78kwh battery which is awful efficiency. I would have expected more from Volvo/Geely.

  • GrapSorz on June 21, 2022

first thing i noticed was the norwegina plates.. your an hours drive from me.

  • Budget Audiophile Life-long on June 21, 2022

🤗👍😎. THANKS SANDY AND CORY ( with his iPhone ) for giving us a clear picture of the progress in EUROPE 😁😍😍😍

  • Ed A. on June 21, 2022

A friend of a friend bought a Volvo XC40 Recharge last year. It was OK in the city, but the first time they tried to take a modest trip they ended up in an unscheduled hotel due to totally nonfunctional chargers, chargers that wouldn't interface with their car and even supposed chargers that turned out to be nonresistant. They're decades long Volvo buyers and when they visited the Volvo dealer the salesman told them not to buy a Tesla because there weren't many chargers that would work with a Tesla. Lies, lies and more lies.

  • Benjamin Smith on June 21, 2022

The car would not roll if you turn creep off. You can go in the settings and put the car on one-pedal drive and there would be no rolling.

Not how the car looks Chinese when it's a Swedish design. And I think the car has a small amount of buttons. The design isn't new so the screen is a bit small.

I'm glad to see Sandy say favorable things about the car. It's well built, mostly well finished too.

  • nari ackley on June 21, 2022

    woo woo woo !!!

  • Lars Borg on June 21, 2022

I am really disappointed with you mr Munro, why don't you let someone show the features Google has done with its software together with Volvo. You don't even understand the what happens if you touch the bottom button which send you back to the home page (the same function you have on any modern pad or phone). If you have checked out what kind of apps are available, your comments how Europeans drive sounds ridiculous. You should know that the chargepoint is on the same side/back, same as Tesla, the Volvo oncharge can receive 150 KW, perfect as Tesla now allows other makes to use there stalls. You should also understand that the XC40 is one of the most sold SUV:s in Europe. The C40 is a new version. Both models are using the same drive train and platform as the Polestar, meaning 408 Hp. You have a lot to learn, a lot has changed since you made presentations of the BMW i3, I also believe you have become a Tesla Fan Boy.

  • Bernesto on June 21, 2022

It appears they have one pedal driving feature so as Sandy indicated, most likely they setup the test drive to be as comfortable to an ICE driver

  • Bidon50 on June 21, 2022

Love Volvo style and quality but not their weight. And too bad they do not have a real EV platform so far. Their current EV models, as polestar 2 lack inside room.

  • Mark Plott on June 21, 2022

ha ha ha ha, VOLVO XC40 is an OK car , but not Groundbreaking.
the XC40 is a GIMP , its built with a GAS car body on a OUTDATED bev Platform , the CMA .
its the same OUTDATED platform as the Polestar 2 GIMP car.
the XC40 is simply OUTCALASSED by Tesla.
too short RANGE, too SLOW, too HEAVY, and very INEFFICIENT.

  • Bjorn Norrman on June 21, 2022

Thanks for this review. Although I am a Tesla fanboy, I have driven the ice XC40 T4 a lot and IMO it is a very "livable", nice vehicle. To see it come out as an EV at a reasonable price is fantastic. The small frunk is sufficient for cables and adapters, the trunk is a larger than I thought. My only gripe is the tunnel in the middle, mostly noticeable in the back seat. The platform is based on the ICE XC40, but in the EV version they stuffed the tunnel with batteries, keeping rigidity and excellent crash test results.
The XC40 and possibly the C40 is definitely on my shortlist, solid cars…

  • Dan GR on June 21, 2022

    Welcome to Europe Mr. Munro!😊

  • Texla on June 21, 2022

Shark fin on roof? So 2010

  • Chris Cheatwood on June 21, 2022

Being an owner and occasional driver of the C40, I do like the ride and comfort of the interior. I do have some concerns over the software engineering in the vehicle. I have encountered numerous software defects. Volvo has delivered some updates to address defects, but I keep discovering new issues. Volvo’s US based customer service is horrible! Volvo has a lot of work to do if they intend to keep up with the others.

  • Mehmet Akif on June 21, 2022

That is by far the ugliest UI screen with the pathetic air wents inside it. What kind of genious designed it and what was he/she thinking? It is a real challenge now to come up with something uglier.

  • chang on June 21, 2022

It is conservative design simple and easy. No bells and whistles. I like that. Every car should be . Car should be cars not some people play it like toys. It is very serious transportation.

  • DrinkingStar on June 21, 2022

Nice review. It seems Geely has its fingers in a number of European vehicles. Just think, Geely started out as a manufacturer of refrigerators before turning to making cars. I hope you do video of the Smart #1 EV, a Mercedes with Geely collaboration.

  • milesdust on June 21, 2022

Great review, thanks. I’m about to buy an ev, but I’m thinking about waiting for 2023. Or not? I mean, all these new ones that are supposed to come. Is it any point of waiting for BYD, Zeekr, Xpeng, Fisker etc?
    Greetings from Italy.

  • Nahiag on June 21, 2022

    Thank you Sandy!

I live in Gothenburg (Sweden) where videos HQ and main factory is. So I'm quite biased on the longevity of Volvo, even though I'm a Tesla fan.

    Just one datapoint.
XC40 recharge: 78 kwh battery. 418km of range.
Model Y, 75 kwh battery, 525km of range.

Is that really correct? Yet, the price is way lower than the model Y. Would love to see you get your hand on this type of car.

    Love from Sweden
