    Just FYI, BYD's LFP blade batteries have already crushed Tesla's 4680.
    Most importantly, they aren't extreme fire bombs waiting to ignite.

    Isn’t a cathode usually the negative side? A cathode ray tube fires a ray of electrons [negative charge] off the cathode at the back of the tube, which is attracted to the positive screen at the front of the tube, which illuminates the phosphor to make pixels glow. Anodes are positive.

    Except without the right to repair, a minor issue can total your vehicle. Or cost $10,000 when the part should cost $10. It's just not worth the risk. Tesla sells you a car that seems normal but then can hold you hostage when something inevitably breaks.

    A structural battery pack also means it'll much be harder to replace it once it inevitably degrades and is no longer usable. Meaning it'd be a throwaway kind of thing, use the car for a couple years, scrap it. Good job for the environment

    A major improvement the 4680 brings that seems overlooked and ignored way too often is the change from using graphite to silicon for the anode. This is huge, it drastically reduced material cost, improve energy density and longevity of the cell itself

    Tesla will most probably buy the company that comes to market with a viable solid state battery. Untill then others are waiting for it and Tesla is moving forward with the battery technology that's available!

    According to a breakthrough development at Texas A&M university with solid state batteries, one of the single biggest improvements that tech will bring is exponentially improved recharge endurance and greatly reduced energy capacity loss over time. To illustrate, If today's cells can recharge a total of 100,000 hours before wearing out, then a solid state battery could recharge 1,000,000,000 hours (numbers made up to illustrate the point).
